Learning Goals

Learning goals for Event Planning:

  1. How to create a roadmap for sustainability which can be shared with event attendees, sponsors and stakeholders

  2. How to understand best practice sustainability guidelines for events including ISO standards and UN initiatives

  3. How to contribute to your company sustainability strategy and provide your CEO or Head of Sustainability with event sustainability information

How the learning goals will be achieved:

Learners are expected to progress at their own pace through modules covering:

  • How to create a roadmap for your sustainability journey

  • What does a corporate planner event strategy look like and why?

  • What you need to know about the future of carbon and procurement

  • How can you implement the globally recognised standard for events: ISO 20121?

  • How to report on your event impacts

  • How can you implement human and child rights considerations in your event

  • Personal Development Advice

  • How can you make a net zero commitment and join the Race to Zero?

  • How we created this content

  • Who are the United Nations Environment Programme and how will their work impact the event sector?

  • How can association events have a positive impact ?

In total this is 11 modules of learning content, followed by a learning output questionnaire.

Measuring how the learning goals will be achieved:

The learning output questionnaire is in the final module (and the way to measure how well the learning goals have been reached) however it makes sense to schedule time to consider the following questions after any of the Event Planning modules, especially those you believe to be most relevant to your situation.

  1. Provide an outline, including at least 4 action steps, of how you will use the roadmap approach within your company. Demonstrate that the roadmap approach will be used to engage stakeholders and influence strategic direction.

  2. What are 3 learnings you have gained on best practice sustainability guidelines for events including ISO standards and UN initiatives?

  3. What are 3 ideas you have about how you will act on these learnings within the scope of your event?

  4. Provide a few lines summary of your company’s sustainability strategy and a few lines on how your approach to events could support this

  5. Provide an outline for a meeting with your CEO including 3 requests you could make (supported by the business case for those requests) to improve the sustainability of your events.
