Who are Positive Impact:
Positive Impact Events is a UK based not for profit which has provided education, engagement and collaboration to create a sustainable event industry since 2005. In other words, Positive Impact exists to lead the adaptation of the event sector to being a low carbon sector. Since 2017 Positive Impact has had memorandums of understanding to enable collaboration with a number of United Nations Bodies including UN SDG Action, UN Environment, Unicef UK and UNFCCC.
Since 2020 Positive Impact and UNFCCC or UN Climate Change (the United Nations entity tasked with supporting the global response to the threat of climate change) have led the creation of a carbon target and reduction framework for the global event sector.
The compelling future for the event sector with Carbon Target and Reduction Framework:
The future of face-to-face events is dependent on the sector having a credible carbon target and reduction strategy. Without this, the speed of return to face-to-face events will be slower because corporates and governments will increasing monitor all their actions with the focus on only taking action which produces low carbon results.
At COP26, it could be announced that the event sector has a carbon target and reduction strategy, developed under the auspices of UNFCCC. It would be possible that at COP26, the global event sector could be showcased as a sector which is a leading example of demonstrating #buildbackbetter.
